My 2012 Q&A(from Tumblr)

  • 1: What did you do in 2012 that you’d never done before?
      • Went to San Francisco. Drove a moving truck with a car in tow from Tampa to DC, taught a Full-fledged graphic novel course for one of the best colleges in the country!
  • 2: Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
      • I didn’t make any last year, and probably won’t this year. I already have enough goals.
  • 3: Did anyone close to you give birth?
      • My brother and sister-in-law had another little girl
  • 4: Did anyone close to you die?
      • Michael Clarke Duncan
  • 5: What countries did you visit?
      • None
  • 6: What would you like to have in 2013 that you lacked in 2012:
      • More published work and more energy…and to find a way to deal with stress that doesn’t involve large pizzas.
  • 7: What dates from 2012 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
      • July 20th, when the theater in Aurora was attacked. Movie theaters are the closest thing to a church to me (probably even closer). When I read the news the next morning that while I was enjoying The Dark Knight Rises, people were losing their lives, it hit me in as close to a spiritual way as I am capable of.
  • 8: What was your biggest achievement of the year?
      • 4 publications altogether, by Rusty Nail, the Lit Garden, and monkeybycicle.
  • 9: What was your biggest failure?
      • Not pushing myself harder until the last part of the year.
  • 10: Did you suffer illness or injury?
      • No. I remain the healthiest fat guy in America.
  • 11: What was the best thing you bought?
      • Saga (comic book). A desktop computer. A portrait of myself as Beast from the incredibly talented Joi Washington, which I gave to my mom for Christmas.
  • 12: Whose behaviour merited celebration?
      • Hmmm…I had some wonderful students, we’ll leave it at that
  • 13: Whose behaviour made you appalled?
      • Hmmm…I had some horrible students, we’ll leave it at that
  • 14: Where did most of your money go?
      • Rent, food, comics, movies, and mostly–STUDENT LOANS
  • 15: What did you get really, really, really excited about?
      • Finding a burst of inspiration for a novel that has been plaguing me for years, coming up with enough story to spin it into 3 books, and getting positive feedback from everyone who has read samples so far.
  • 16: What song will always remind you of 2012?
      • Soundgarden’s “Been Away Too Long”

    • (a) happier or sadder?
      • Well, happier with my professional life…person life is about the same
    • (b) thinner or fatter?
      • Slightly fatter despite going to the gym a lot. I had some stressful months that got the best of me.
    • (c) richer or poorer?
      • Same
  • 18: What do you wish you’d done more of?
      • Writing–and getting my getting my writing into the world.
  • 19: What do you wish you’d done less of?
      • Letting stress get to me.
  • 20: How did you spend Christmas your birthday?
      • Watched Les Miserables with my family.

      • No, but those I did hate before I hate even moreso now.
  • 24: What was the best book you read?
      • I hate you for asking this. Way too many to choose from. Great comics this year, like Thor: God of Thunder and Animal Man. Great books like Roma and Fun and Games. Too many things to choose from
  • 25: What was your greatest musical discovery?
      • Danger Mouse’s Rome
  • 26: What did you want and get?
      • I wanted to be a more determined writer. Now I most definitely am.
  • 27: What did you want and not get?
      • Love. But then I realized that I wanted to focus on other things right now.
  • 28: What was your favorite film of this year?

  • 29: What one thing made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
